Q: How long does it take to receive the online proof of an accepted article?

My first paper in my life was successfully accepted, thanks to the swift English editing work and useful articles posted by Editage! However, I feel anxious that I have not yet received a proof of my accepted manuscript as it is already 4 weeks since I my article received acceptance. Typically, how long does it take to receive a proof for online correction?

Most journals usually take 3-4 weeks to provide online proofs to the author for final review. The process between acceptance and receiving proofs involve copy-editing to check for inconsistencies in formatting and type-setting that includes final setting of the paper and collating a set of questions for you to correct. Considering the journal workload varies and the flow of papers is not constant, the time to send the online proofs vary. Even so, if your manuscript is accepted in an open-access journal, the process is a lot quicker and you should receive the online proof within 3 weeks.

 

You may consider referring to one or more recently published articles from the same journal to check for ‘received date’, ‘accepted date’, ‘available online date’, and date of final publication. This will help you determine the time taken by journal to provide the online proofs. If that does not help, you may consider writing an email to the editor of the journal requesting for the status of your article.
