Q: How long should I wait for the status "Decision in process" after minor revision?

Detailed Question -

My case report, which was edited by Editage, received a minor revision request by a journal. It was rather an easy comment, so I resubmitted the case report after revision immediately. Then the status changed to “Decision in process”. However, I have heard nothing from the journal for 3 weeks, though I assumed I would receive a response in a few days. I am anxious if there is any problem with the paper or if it will get a rejection. Can I have any advice for this situation? Thank you.

Answer:

Generally, papers that have received a request for major or minor revisions are sent for a second round of peer review. However, for minor revisions, the editor might make the decision himself/herself instead of sending it out for review once again. It is not uncommon for the "Decision in process" status to take several weeks.

Delays at this stage happen mostly because the editor has a lot of papers lined up at his/her desk waiting for a decision. Your paper will have to wait for its turn. Don't worry, this has nothing to do with the outcome. If you have made all the changes satisfactorily, you can be hopeful. Wait for another week. If you still don't receive a decision, you can send an inquiry to the editor.
