Q: I have detected an error in my paper that is currently under peer review. What should I do?
I submitted a manuscript and it is currently under review. In the meantime, I found a troubling matter; the number of people for the survey data was wrong. Specifically, I made a mistake with the number of people and the effective number of people for the survey data. Should I wait for the result of the peer review to correct the mistake?
If a manuscript is under review, you will not be able to upload a revised manuscript on the submission system. If the peer review process is on-going, it is unlikely that the editor might allow for the manuscript to be changed at this stage.
But you can always write to the editor explaining your situation; decision to accept a revised manuscript before peer-review is completed is completely at the discretion of the editor.
The mistake in the manuscript might be caught at the peer review stage and hence, if the journal asks you to revise, you can always change it. But, in any case, you can consider writing to the editor.
Sometimes, the editor might advise you to withdraw your manuscript and submit a revised one as fresh submission.
