Q: Manuscript is with Editor
The status is With Editor for almost one month. What should I expect next: Desk rejection or Sent for Review
Thank you for this question. I understand that you have submitted your manuscript over a month ago and the status hasn't been updated. Most journals take about 6-8 weeks to respond with a decision and the reason for these differing peer review periods could vary.
Some journals take longer because they are unable to find suitable peer reviewers, while some would have received too many submissions and therefore prioritization takes longer. It would therefore not be appropriate to predict the outcome as the reason for the delay could be varied. We would recommend that you write to the journal for an update if you don't hear back from them even after 6-8 weeks post submission.
You may also find a few of these resources helpful:
- How should I urge the editor when it takes very long to process my manuscript?
- Should I write to the editor if the status has remained "With editor" for two weeks since submission?
You might want to take a look at our handbook of templates for communicating with the journal.
Hope this helps. All the best for your submission!
