Q: What does 'Awaiting JEO Checking' mean after receiving an acceptance decision from an Emerald journal?
After submitting for the revisions, my paper was selected by the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for the Emerald Publishing journal, Journal of Humanities and Applied Social Sciences (JHASS). The status was displayed as ‘Accepted,’ but after that, it has been ‘Awaiting JEO Checking.’ What does this mean? What are the next steps of publication?
Firstly, congrats on the acceptance! And now to your queries…
‘JEO’ stands for the Journal Editorial Office. So, ‘Awaiting JEO Checking’ after acceptance means the accepted manuscript will now be checked by the JEO for minor issues in language, grammar, style, and formatting. Which brings things to your second quer, about the stages to publication.
After the JEO check, the journal will send the updated manuscript to you for proofing. You will have to perform a check of your own to ensure the finalized (and ready-to-be-published) manuscript is complete in every way: linguistically, grammatically, stylistically, and of course, scientifically. No changes are typically possible after this stage. After that, once it goes back to the journal, the manuscript is ready to publish. Cheers!
To prepare for the proofing stage, you may refer to these resources.
- What is the minimum number of comments to be included while proofing my paper?
- Can I replace an image at the proofing stage before publication?
- Can I correct an error in citation at the page proof stage?
Now, as you asked about the next stages, after publication, you may also wish to think about how to promote your published research. For that, you may find these resources useful.
For now though, all the best for taking the manuscript toward publication! And again, congrats! A great way to start the new year, no doubt. :)
