Q: What to do if the manuscript ID is not assigned even 1.5 months after submission?

Detailed Question -

I submitted to the Journal of Water and Climate Change. The status shows "submitted to journal" for 1.5 months now, but still hasn't assigned a manuscript ID. Should I send an mail and inquire or submit to another jounal? If sending mail, what should I pay attention to?

It's strange that even after 1.5 months, the manuscript id hasn't been assigned. I think you should write to the journal and find out. Even if you wish to withdraw the paper, you will have to write to the journal and wait till you receive a confirmation of withdrawal from them. So the first step is to find out when the manuscript id will be assigned. If the editor says that it will take more time or if the editor does not respond to your email, you can then consider withdrawing the paper.
