Q: Do I need permission from the journal for citing a figure or diagram for my review article?
To cite a figure or a diagram for my review article, besides including the citation, do I need to get permission from the journal where the cited paper was published? I have written to the journal but have not received any reply yet.
I understand you are doing a literature review. Also, you are looking to only cite the relevant figure or diagram and not edit or modify it in any way. In that case, no, you do not need permission from the journal(s) where the original article(s) appeared. You are fine with only including the citation(s). This is the same for the other types of review articles as well, that is, systematic review and meta-analysis.
