Q: Why has my revised paper not been sent for review though it's been 20 days since resubmission?
I submitted a manuscript to a journal and received a major revision. After some time, I submitted my revised paper. But since then the status for my manuscript is "Under initial assessment." It's been more than 20 days and it has still not been sent for review. Is this normal?
Usually a revised manuscript is sent to the same set of reviewers who reviewed it the first time. Therefore, ideally, it should not take 20 days to send the revised manuscript for review.
However, sometimes the editor may choose to send the paper to new reviewers if he/she feels the need for a fresh perspective. That could explain why it is taking so long to assign reviewers. Another possible reason could be that the original reviewers are busy and are unable to take up the re-review of your manuscript at the moment. They might have asked for some time before they can take on your review.
However, it is best to send an inquiry to the journal asking by when the paper is expected to be sent for review.
