Q: What does 'EO Sends Decision' mean after a second round of minor revisions?

Detailed Question -

I submitted a manuscript to Mayo Clinic Proceedings. After a second round of minor revisions, the status changed from ‘Awaiting Associate Editor Decision’ to ‘EO Sends Decision.’ However, I have not yet received any “decision.” What does this mean?

Answer:

Status descriptions can vary from journal to journal. Typically, this status change means that the Associate Editor (AE) has had your revised manuscript reviewed, arrived at a decision on the manuscript, and communicated their decision to the Editor-in-Chief (EiC), who makes the final decision. So by ‘EO Sends Decision,’ it does not mean that the editorial office (EO) or AE has sent the decision to you, but to the EiC. The EiC will probably make their decision in the next few days. So, you could wait a week or so to see if the status changes. If not, you could write to the journal requesting an update.
