Q: What does it mean if the editor has withdrawn my manuscript?
Recently, I submitted my manuscript to Nature. However, the editor has withdrawn my paper. I have no idea of the reason for the paper being withdrawn without my request.
This is an unusual situation. The editor can reject a paper, but cannot withdraw it unless the author sends a request for withdrawal. Are you sure none of the other co-authors sent a withdrawal request for the paper? If that is not the case, then the only other possibility is that there was some mistake or a system error. You should immediately write to the editor inquiring about this. Make sure to make it very clear in your email that you have not sent a withdrawal request.
