Q: When should I make a second inquiry?
I submitted a manuscript to a mega journal and its period until initial judgement is about 50 days. Now the 50 days have past, but the status remains “submitted”. Actually I already inquired about the status at when 30 days have past, and then I was advised that the editor was working on internal review. Should I wait for a while until making a next inquiry? When should I make a 2nd inquiry?
Thank you for your query. Given that the period for initial review is now over, you can go ahead and make a second inquiry, especially if this timeline of 50 days has been provided by the journal itself.
You can send a politely worded email requesting a time estimate or an update regarding your manuscript.
The following articles have some templates that you can modify and use to make your inquiry.
- Is it impolite if I send an inquiry to the editor about review status?
- How to write to the journal editor inquiring about the status of my paper
- How do I write an inquiry to the editor about my manuscript's current status?
However, this time, it is advisable to provide a compelling reason (probably academic) for seeking an update or even a decision on your manuscript. You may mention the cause of your urgency and request that you be provided with a timeline so that you also have a general idea regarding the same, as this will help you plan subsequent actions.
Hope this helps. All the best for your submission!
