Also, IF is a very debated matter when it comes to journal selection. However, let’s address these one by one.Firstly, a journal with an IF of 2-2.5 may be considered a bit on the lower side, but not very low. Note that many journals fall in this bracket. The majority of journals, in fact, fall in the bracket of an IF of 1-1+. So, a journal with an IF of 2-2.5 would be considered having a higher impact than these journals. Journals change their name for various reasons, such as a change of scope or a merger with another journal. When they do so, the IF of the new journal changes too, as the new journal is considered a separate publication from the previous one. Technically speaking, the new journal does not have an IF for the first two years of its publication. This is because, as you may know and as the editor shared with you, IF is based on articles published in the journal for the previous two years. Therefore, for the first year, as you have seen, you will not be able to find the new journal in a database such as Web of Science. For the same reason, you will continue to find the previous journal in the database.In the second year though, things change. In the second year, the new journal will have an immediacy index, though still not an IF. Also, the two journals together will have a unified IF for these two years. The term RJIF refers to "Research Journal Impact Factor." This is an index that is used to as a measure of the prestige of journals. It is similar to the Journal Impact Factor (by Thomson Reuters); however, it does not have the credibility of the latter. Even though RJIF is used by some (not a majority of) journals, it is not considered in major academic decisions, e.g., those related to tenure. Also the credibility of RJIF is not yet established, whereas the JIF, being patented by a well-established company is well known and comparatively more credible. Note that publishing in a journal with a high impact factor is not the only way or even the best way to advance your career or boost your profile. To answer your question, I am not really sure whether a journal with RJIF 5.44 is considered to be prestigious. However, I checked the RJIF list of journals, and most of teh journals that showed an impact factor, had 5 or more on an average. But yes, citing another relevant paper shows that you have done a thorough literature search in your area and are building on previous research, which is the beginning of good science and research. In recent years, the impact factor has come under considerable criticism for its limitations, and the academic research community is trying to shift its focus from the impact factor when evaluating a journal. However, many universities/institutes still lay emphasis on the impact factor. Considering this, publishing in a SCI-indexed journal with an impact factor (even a low impact factor) might be better than publishing in other journals that may only be indexed in SCOPUS or ESCI and carry no impact factors.However, having said that, it is also more difficult to publish in an SCI-indexed journal with an impact factor than in journals without an impact factor.
