Q: My paper's status has been 'Editor assigned' for over 2 months with no option to send an email inquiry. What should I do?

Detailed Question -

I'm a bit worried because the status of my paper has been "With editor" for more than 2 months . It's a computer science journal from a famous publisher. The submission system does not have an option to send an e-mail to the assigned editor, it just shows "View your submission". In this case, what should I do within the following choices? 1. Withdraw 2. Make direct contact with the editor 3. Just wait 4. Other Also, if I should contact the editor directly, How can I know which editor to contact and how can I find his contact address ? Thanks in advance.

Answer:

Since your paper hasn't made any progress over the past 2 months, I think you should make an inquiry. As there is no option to send an email via the submission system, you should go through the journal's website carefully and see if you can find the email address of the editorial office or any other email where authors can contact. If you cannot find any such address, try to contact the Editor-in-chief of the journal. Since this is a renowned journal, the Editor-in-chief will probably be a respected figure in his/her field. It should not be too difficult to find a way to contact him/her.

If nothing works, you have no option but to wait. If there is no change in status even after 4-5 months from submission, you might have to consider withdrawal.
