Q: What is the current status of my manuscript?

Detailed Question -

Hello, I submitted my manuscript in a ScholarOne based journal. Its status changed after more than a month of the status "awaiting adm checklist" to "awaiting eic assignment" to "awaiting ae assignment". What stages are completed and what is currently happening?

Answer:

Dear Sanaa Ahmed,

The process of manuscript submission to revision takes place in different stages. The initial check up of the manuscript is done to make sure that it is compiled according to journal guidelines (page setting, segments of the manuscript abiding the journal pattern, not plagiarised etc). Once it is cleared, he editor in chief (Eic) will make sure that your manuscript fits the scope of the journal and it will be of interest to the readers of the journal. Eic can desk reject a manuscript if these prerequisites are not met. Subsequently, the screened manuscript will be sent to an expert of the subject area of the manuscript. This is the academic editor or AE. He or she then will assign two or more reviewers to the manuscript. If reviewers accept the invitation to review, the review process begins. The review process differs from journal to journal. Provided the reviewers complete their review within the given time frame ( usually few weeks), you will get an initial decision on your manuscript roughly within next 2 to 8to 10 weeks. But, this is a general pattern. The review process could extend even up to a few months even as reviewers are also researchers themselves and are most of the time do it as a non paid service.

Hope you will hear from the AE within next few weeks with  positive remarks!
