Q: What is the probability of my article being accepted or rejected after two rounds of major revision?
Hello everyone. In April 2018, I submitted my paper to a Q2 journal. In less than a week, the manuscript status was "Under review." Since then, I was waiting to find out what would happen next. I waited for really long until I decided to politely remind the editor in January 2019. The very next day, I received major revisions from 4 reviewers. I tried to address the reviewers'concerns to the best of my ability and resubmitted the revised manuscript. After resubmission, I got more comments where one reviewer raised other issues while the rest of the reviwers were satisfied. I revised my manuscript again and now it is with the editor for over a month. What does this indicate?
The journal’s editorial process can take several months and it can involve several rounds of review. The fact that your manuscript was sent for review twice should not bother you. The editor is sending your manuscript for several rounds of review because they see some potential in it.
While it is difficult to predict the outcome of a manuscript, I feel you can be hopeful. Since three of the four reviewers were satisfied by your first revision, it seems that you have done a pretty good job. If you have been able to address the fourth reviewer's comments in a satisfactory manner in the second round of revision, your paper should be accepted. However, a lot depends on whether the paper will be sent for another round of review and if the reviewer will be satisfied with the changes you have made. Keep your fingers crossed; but also be mentally prepared for further revisions if required.
